We had a good time. Gilby has a bunch of new things to put in his mouth. Here’s some pics. I woke up at 5 and tossed and turned for three hours while Gilby decided to sleep in until eight. Thanks kid. Waite until you get older, I’ll sleep in and make you wait. We opened presents. He chewed on things. Grandma and Grandpa came over for breakfast. They left, we went for a nice long walk. We went over to Grandma and Grandpa’s for dinner. Yeah! Holidays.

Maui trip

We spent last weekend and part of last week in Maui. Gilby was great the whole time, even on the plane rides. We swam in the pool, dipped our toes in the ocean (the water was pretty rough after last week’s big storm), and otherwise relaxed in a tropical manner.

Gilby’s loving the solid foods! He’s eating rice cereal for breakfast and dinner along with some tasty fruit or vegetable. He’s especially loving the homemade peaches (thanks Amy!) and carrots.

It’s not really a big new thing, but Gilby’s chatty factor is going through the roof. He oohs at the cat, ba’s at us, bubbles into cups of water, and hums at, or rather, with the various toys and/or fingers that are in his mouth. It’s wicked cute.

Le Gilb weighs 18 pounds and he’s 28 inches long. He’s sitting up on his own and ate his first rice cereal on Sunday. He’s chatty a lot of the time. Some of his favorite toys right now are a big shiny silver serving spoon and my alarm clock.

Gilby’s got his first cold. I think I must have given it to him, though Meghan had it before me. It’s nothing serious, just some snot in his nose, some coughing (guessing due to sore throat like we both had), and some sneezing. Poor little dude, though.

On Monday we took Le Gilb to the park down the hill to take in the nice holiday weather. Man, that kid loves being outside. We sat in the shade under a lovely pine tree and watched all sorts of kids and dogs running around. I snapped some nice pics of Gilby practicing his standing. Man, that kid loves standing.

Meghan’s come up with a couple of awesome games that get Gilby doing the baby equivalent of knee slapping. One is involves him laying on the ground and Meghan standing up above him. She then takes a big scarf, says “ready? on your marks, get set, go!” and then floats the scarf down over him almost until it lands, then whisks it away with a squeal. Which gets him squealing. The other is about squishing him up into a ball like we used to do when we swaddled him in blankets (we were actually testing if he still fit in them–he doesn’t). Basically Meghan just pretends to swaddle him, and when she is bringing the bottom of the swaddle up to finish, she coos “squishy squishy squishy” in his ear and wiggles the blanket around. He loves it. Big baby belly laughs.

Gilby might be cutting a tooth. He’s drooling like a madman and chomping on everything. Yesterday I propped him up in his crib only holding on to his hands–he totally held himself up with his own tiny legs. He just used me to keep balance. He’s still fascinated by his toes and has also developed a new interest in his tongue (as shown in the pics). He’s also working on mastering the vibrating spitting tongue thing. You know: “thbbbt!”

3 months

A couple of days ago, on the 24th, Gilby had his 3 month birthday. The next day we were hanging out and I was helping him stand up. He loves to stand around and stomp his feet. This time it kind of looked like he was trying to walk. He put one foot in front of the other a few times and ended up a few inches closer to me. Oh yeah, he’s got all sorts of tricks.
